What do you mean, "Wait to see the mintage numbers?" Do they post a running tally of how many they've sold??? I think I read on the site that they are limited to 250K for the PRs and 250K for the UNCs... Can you somehow tell how close they are to selling out???
I already ordered mine yesterday. If its not popular then the mintage will only be what everyone ordered. So the more unpopular it is better for the collectors who bought it right?
ups or downs The way I see it is that if it sells out quick, then the price is high in the short term, If it doesn't sell, out it might be good for the long term. But in the end only hindsight will tell.
But if it is unpopular, then that means that there probably will not be a demand for it, and that will keep the price fairly low, right?
I found out about the Jamestown commemorative coins today on news.collectica.com and had a heated discussion with a friend on their historical inaccuracies and the whole political agenda behind them…I mean I personally liked the design a lot, enough to override my reservations about their design choice. Anyway I’m definitely getting some, my friend disagrees with my decision and so I was wondering how many of my fellow coin collectors agree with me that the aesthetic value of the coins matter more than the historical inaccuracies and how many thought the design was a problem for them?
I ordered a set of the $5 and the Dollar in proof. But, the the order status is pending. Weird. I wonder if it's because I've ordered a gold coin.
The dollar is just ugly and the 5 is ok but not stunning. We have a forumite who designs coins maybe he could render an opinion. Are there enough people out there who are really into "Jamestown" to create demand? (probably not). I mean with the olympic commems you have the athletes and their families, but who is really passionate about "Jamestown", it is a bit like the Capital Visitor's Center coins. Now does anyone think that the big dealers are going to sink there capital into this coin with so many mint products coming down (I doubt they will). This thing is set to be a low demand coin (possible low mintage) like the capital visitor's center.
nd86: What is the upcoming special packaging for the Jamestown unc that was hinted at in the brochure? thanks!
WHOA, I am surprised they hit those numbers at all let alone in the first day!!! I must have been wrong. BTW where do you get those numbers?...and can you break it down to unc/pr on the $5? You sure are full of good info, thanks much!
Yea, good question; I was wondering about that too... I tried googling it, but I got nothin... Thanks for the info nd86... You work at the mint???
He could tell you but then he'd have to kill you.:smile By the way,has anybody seen this. Some guy is selling 2007 $5 Jamestown gold commems signed and dated 7/11/07 by the director of the mint.Maybe he has a time machine? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...073932853&category0=11116&Submit=Search&fvi=1
Looks pretty legit, the only way I can think of that he got them was to be at that event they had in Jamestown for the launch of these coins... I read they were pre--selling them there... I'm supprised there aren't a bunch of the Silver ones on there..
We just wouldn't know what to do without you. I suggest we open a thread called ND86's numbers of wisdom. i always feel happier after reading the numbers than before. i am sure it would help the community out and we could get all the numbers in one place? but it would require your approval? Any thoughts? Thanks.
