It doesn't have anything to do with me not liking the venue. And I don't just ignore the sales, not at all. My sole point on the matter is that the majority of ebay buyers pay more, often way more, than the coin is worth - because they don't have a clue about what they are doing ! It is that and that alone that makes ebay realized sales numbers irrelevant.

OK, but so what ? Back in 2007 when CAC first started they sent me an invitation to join as a collector member. I turned the offer down. And it was not long after that that CAC stopped even allowing collectors to become members. And it's been that way for years now. So while that may be their policy for existing collector members, those are few in number. And since the majority, the vast majority, of collectors cannot even send coins to CAC, so they have to use a dealer, and all dealer submissions are charged, if the coin doesn't sticker - you pay.

But I appreciate your correction regarding the exceptions.

I feel at this point I've made it more than obvious that I'm trying to do just that.
I started to read the ebook you linked earlier. I think some of my next purchases will have to be some MS coins of the type Im collecting. Luckily I have a nice Morgan to reference while going through the ebook. Thank you.

I mean, I know money and ethics mix like oil and water, but is it really like that? And do you (and Doug) do consignment? Or do you mean if you graded a coin and sent it in to CAC?

@baseball21 thank you for tipping me to CAC. I probably won't use them anytime soon because it looks like they only want to verify proofs and MS, but I will keep them on my list for future.
I drink the eBay look-aid regularly. All bs aside who can truly deny that eBay is a great marketplace for coins? The only downside to it (that I see) follows all online marketplaces... you are trusting the photos haven't been doctored so, essentially, buying "true" sight unseen (please add any that would be beneficial to know). But I agree with you. I've bought and sold more coins on eBay than from anywhere else; collectibles and Bullion. I've searched my area for LCS and it's hard to find one that offers a variety in my price range. One would be hard up to search what they're looking for and NOT find it on eBay. Now, whether it is reasonably priced or graded is questionable, but it's there.

A small percentage are clueless yes, but so are buyers in a BM or a show. There's people all around the country paying outrageous prices for things in local shops every day. But I am not referring to a single sale eBay price point, but rather when things consistently sell in a range. When things are consistently selling somewhere that is what they are worth

Collectors can still join. They just shut it down on their website. If someone is interested though all they have to do is call and a membership application will be sent to them. It can take a while to get accepted since they don't charge a yearly fee and it seems like they want to weed out people who would just sign up on a whim if it was open to online registration.

Exactly. Some pictures are better than others but aside from bullion pretty much everything can be returned anyway so all you really risk is the shipping fee and driving a couple hours to a show would cost gas money anyway. For most collectors price ranges the majority of things will eventually get listed exposing collectors to a much larger selection than a single shop could practically or afford to have in stock. There certainly are valid complaints about some of their policies towards sellers, but overall they have been a net positive on the hobby

@baseball21 I had a near "no way eBay" experience this weekend. I shipped a coin to someone, along with about 10 other coins to other people; packed the same way, traveling roughly similar distances. 9 thank you great coin and fast ship comments and 1 "shipped empty envelope" feedback. They never tried to contact me, just went straight to eBay to file a claim. I was pissed to put it extremely lightly. Over an $8 coin I was going to ruin perfect feedback. Na. I filed a "fraudulent buyer protection" claim (took about a minute), selected to speak with someone from eBay (had someone on the line in less than 3 min) and after a 1 min wait they said they'd "shoulder the claim"- refund them, let me keep the money and remove the negative feedback. Not that I've done any other online auction anything (other than scoping cool stuff on HA and SB) but I find it hard to believe that dealing with other sites would/could be that easy. Needless to say that experience sweetened the kool-aid for me.
