I stopped by the LCS today in hopes of snagging the '81-CC GSA Morgan that was there, but he had sold it between my visits. What a bummer! It was really pretty, too, probably MS-65 at least. So without that target purchase, I opted for these instead. One 1800 half cent, with PCGS estimated survival of 1,000 coins. 99.9% sure it's been cleaned, but I don't care. It's got great details remaining, and I'm happy to put it into my type set soon. One 1894-S Morgan which seems like it's been cleaned as well, but again, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. This one has lots of details at the right spots, and PL looks to it. I'll happily be filling that hole in my whitman book, once I get past this next paragraph. Lastly, I finally bought myself a new coin microscope. I'd be posting pictures of these coins through it already, but it's still charging up for the initial use so those pics will likely be posted tomorrow. But it's a huge upgrade from my little $25 scope, for certain. Not pictured here is a 1909 VDB (no "S" unfortunately ) that's taking a nice little acetone bath at the moment. If you would like to chime in with any potential respective grade for these, please feel free to share your thoughts. I'm already assuming them as cleaned anyways, so it can't get much worse than I already think! Thanks, and enjoy!
Just run a USB cord from your scope to your computer or laptop. It will run immediately. My problem with mine? It's a little TOO good, every flaw is in your face. My main beef with mine is that the stand is too short to get a full coin photo with a silver dollar under it. A dime is about all I get get a full photo of.
Hah... well, this one is too good for this site, apparently. I just cropped them all down to size and they're still too big for the allotted file size. I guess a 52MP camera will do that?
This scope is able to fit an entire Morgan into view, too. Takes a little bit of rigging it up right, but it barely still fits.
Were you able to get a full coin photo under it? I can not under mine. You can adjust your file size down on your computer through through MS Paint to get the resolution small enough to post here. How many inches tall is your stand?
I'm going to end up creating an imgur link for lots of my coins, especially considering I can't upload the files here. Just not tonight. Soon though!
The stand arm is 10" tall but the scope itself is about 4-5" tall, so you release it from the fully-seated position and secure it at the bottom of the scope and... voila! Full Morgan view! (Edit to add: In very clear 4K resolution, with multiple controllable LED lights)
Yeah, yours is a little taller than mine. Nice. I wish I'd got yours but mine was really cheap, maybe 30 bucks.
Doing that seems counter-intuitive though, just a bit. No need to do that when I can just provide a link to view them at full resolution.
This one cost me a pretty penny, even from Amazon. It's an Elikliv EM4K-AF, cost about $200. My last one was like $20 from Amazon, so you can understand my astonishment at this one that cost 10x as much lol
You are probably right. You just need another place other than here to host them. This site has limits to conserve band width, and I get it. This site is awesome for photos though as it is. I have no complaints.
Same here! Luckily, I have a 2TB external hard drive that I use for storing all kinds of stuff. Now I get to load it up with coin pictures, too
Tomorrow will have me fooling around with the new scope, so hopefully I can get some better pictures of it to post here. There's a way to drop the image size, just need to figure it out
Good Luck with the Pics using the scope. I tried almost everything with mine and still have lousy pics. (Too Grainy) I have a $200 Dino-Lite too! Maybe it's not good for coins just flowers and stuff??
My experience is that they are great for minutia but really lame for macro shots. They just aren't that versatile.
I tried that. Disaster. I remember you suggesting that. No way to stabilize the camera because there isn't a cord to snap the photo, when I go to touch the picture button the entire camera moves. It was frustrating, to say the least.
