    The Red Book still lists the 1917 matte proof Lincoln.

    The point is:

    ""No mint records show or note that any 1917 Proof cents were struck matte or otherwise but early mint records are hardly complete or inclusive"". Also early on before the 1920's they often combined mint yearly total die production with other denomenation of the time such as Buffalo nickles.
    That said many think they have seen and/or have heard about 1917 matte proofs in existance.
    We do not know for certain if that coin is real yet or just a suberb regular mint struck coin or very EDS type coin.
