Good evening/ morning all! It's Friday where I am and a *New Thread. It's "Friends and Family Friday". Coins that you received from Friends and Family members. Tokens and Medals welcome. This is my 1937 Two Shilling coin that I received from my late Uncle which was one of my first collectable coins when I was very young. He also gave me many other American coins. Please post one of your coins with a short description?
My dad gifted me this 1863 German Thaler decades ago.. I sent it to NGC but unfortunately it received a details grade . But it's safe now. I will keep the coin forever!
The coin that started my collecting was given to me by my Aunt in 1948. It is the 1883 w/o cents nickel. I still have it.
I've posted this plenty of times before, but here's my maternal grandfather's silver WW2 deployment medal. A kind stranger had it and tracked down my mother. She gave it to Mom, and Mom gave it to me. Dr. Logan T. Robertson (1916-1987)
You know about my WWII collection. I have never seen one of these medals. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I don't only (although mostly) collect bust halves. Ialso have a classic commem collection called the "Babydoll Memorial Collection" so-called because my late wife used to buy me a new one every Christmas, birthday, and anniversary. Her eye for classic commems was better from day one than mine is after 60 plus years of collecting. Her first...
Purchased by my Wife as an anniversary gift Julia Maesa Denarius. 220-222 AD. IVLIA MAESA AVG, draped bust right / SAECVLI FELICITAS, Felicitas standing left by altar, holding patera and caduceus, star in right field. RIC 271(2); RSC 45; Sear 7757. (Different type of altar). 20mm, 2.12g
This was given to me a couple of years ago by a friend. If only it were not counterfeit! Oh, well... This was given to me recently by the same friend. It's not worth much, but he is elderly and in bad health, and this was the last of his coins. It was also one of the first of his coins, so to me it is sentimentally valuable.
I was given this small pocket coin holder by my father back in the 68'-72' era sometime. He said they are coin that his father got while he delivered milk, as he was a dairy farmer.
There are some fun coin and coin related items here. Neat idea for a thread. I took one of my Uncles to his first coin show. He ended up buying a few things. I wouldn't say I hooked him but he said he had a real good time. I guess sometime during the show he had bought a few 1OZ rounds. He gave me one and kept one.
I’ve seen eight others in bronze, which had been given to Champion employees. Granddaddy’s is the only silver one I’ve seen. He was the son of the cofounder of the company. My great-grandfather, Reuben Buck Robertson Senior (1879-1972) was instrumental in starting Champion Paper in Western NC around 1907 or thereabouts.
I was very lucky to get a number of worn but interesting coins from my grandmother (Oma). Most were Indian cents but she a lso gave me this dateless Standing Liberty Quarter
