Yea, concur about the wear issue. Nothing like a noseless president, or one with one eye!! Just think of the possibilities!!
Hello glaciermi - just wanted to drop a note, im glad to see another person here from my neck of the woods
I like the proud and thoughtful face on the obverse and having liberty inscribed in Jefferson's on handwriting style is a nice touch. However, I'm tired of seeing President Jefferson's Virginia home of Monticello. I visited it myself and was amazed at the marval of his design and inventions but I would rather see an action scene from his life on the reverse. Slumped over writing with the flame of freedom burning next to him or something. I dunno, I'm just tired of seeing the mansion. No offensive attended to Jody or anyone. Just my five cents on the subject. Tanner, lol. You definitly know the law of coinage better then I. Perhaps someday I can move on up to your level.
You need to remember something - the mint does not have any say in the matter. They have to mint what the law tells them to mint.
One reason I am gappy is because it is one of the few non-commems to be designed in the age of lower reliefs for the sake of "coinability". The Mint has destroyed all current designs, but ones designed from scratch (such as the Sacky) look better in the low relief.
But with the new obverse slated for next year, it does mean that the 2005 nickels are a one year design coin. That hasn't happened for a long time in the U.S., and only once that I can think of. I know that the mintage numbers are waaaaay high, but I still wonder what effect these one year designs will have on the price down the road.
