    This sweet little boy turned into the snarling brute we all know so well.

    Caracalla Denarius

    Obv:– IMP C M AVR ANTONI-NVS PONT AVG, Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right
    Rev:– SECVRITAS PVBLICA, Securitas, draped, seated left on throne, holding globe on extended right hand, left hand resting on side of throne, fold of drapery falling over side to right
    Minted in Laodicea-ad-Mare. A.D. 198
    Reference:– BMCRE 647-649 though with different obverse legend break. RIC 332 (S). RSC 568.

    Some die clogging in the legends but a well detailed example

    That's a very sweet bobble-head example, Martin ... he certainly doesn't look too menacing in that portrait, eh?

    I totally agree Steve---- absolutely incredible posts, especially the last two just above. My unphotographed denarii show him as a 'youth'---rather innocent looking without his typical scowl...
