This thread was inspired by me and @kountryken. It's called a "Beautiful Blessed Sunday". Post your Happiness also! All you have to do is post a pic of a coin, token or medal that has impacted or inspired your collection in one way or another. For me, it's this 1847 Large Cent. It was my first "largie" and my first one found while metal detecting many years ago. It is also my best Copper Large cent dug, as many of you know, copper doesn't fare well in the ground for many reasons. Fertilizer for one example. I found it at an old 1 room schoolhouse, and it has inspired and impacted my collection in many ways. One being the drive to continue detecting and collecting. I visited a couple MDing forums in the beginning which led me to this site over 5 years ago which I'm also grateful for. Here is my pride and joy for Metal detected coppers. The color is different because of lighting issues. It's more chocolate color.
I'm one of 6 children that my mom and dad had. 5 of us are still alive, from 92 to 78. On November 19, 1930, when my mom and dad got married, my mother wore this 1912 D Liberty Nickel in her shoe (something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a 6 Pence in your shoe). Well in 1930 in South Texas, she didn't know what a 6 Pence was, so she used this Nickel. And, out of 6 of us, I have it. Not only that, but on November 03, 2019 when my son got married, his bride wore it in her shoe, too. And I performed the ceremony, lol.
These will impact my collection when I get home to NYC from South Carolina today My haul from the metal detecting event yesterday..
Spectacular story. Thanks for sharing! Before I married my wife she knew that I collected coins. Before we met she had found a V Nickel in the register when she was a cashier. It was kept. She purchased a bezel and chain to gift it to me. It's one of my favorite coins with a lovely memory.
Yes sir, great story, and, like my V Nickel, that is one that stays in the family. Thanks for sharing.
