20 Centesimi Italy 20 Centesimi 1909 R P.S: Damn! I have to learn how to take nicer pictures of my coins!
Great coins everyone, makes my Italian collection look downright small.... which it is... I especially liked Collect89's 1859 5 centesimi.... beautiful coin. Here are a couple of mine... I have very few. The first is a 1923 2 buono lire, Rome mint. Not in great shape, well worn with some rough surfaces. The obverse photo is off color due to camera problems. Next, is my favorite Italian coin. Italy, Kingdom of Napoleon. 1813 Milan - silver 5 Soldi. All the same coin, just different angles and such. obv: NAPOLEONE IMPERATORE E RE - ' Napoleon Emperor and King ' bare head right, date below. rev: REGNO D'ITALIA - ' Kingdom of Italy ' around crown. 5 SOLDI - M below.
the 1859 is a pattern, right? That's probably the most expensive one of the lot. Now I wonder if any of us have see or have any of the coins of Victor Emmanuel the FIRST, who was kicked out by Napoleon....How about the famous Mussolini 5L "fantasy" which was easy to get at one time.
Awesome 1916 2 Lire! Very nice silver 2 Lire, very beautiful design that one. I also like the eagle reverse on the 1927 5 lire, great coins . I really admire some of the Romanesque designs used on some of the early 20th century Italian silver coins, such as the quadriga on the 1916 2 Lire Siberian Man shows us... and the eagle and fasces in the last two coins he posted as well. I have a question about the Kingdom of Napoleon silver 5 Soldi coin I have. Does someone know what the symbols on either side of the date on the obverse signify? To the right of the date it looks like an old lamp almost, and on the left side of the date it looks to me like a leaf.... but I am not sure...

Italy used to issue two sets every year, one with the coins they minted for circulation, and one with every denomination they could think of. The latter was very expensive and had the one lira coins, which were otherwise unspendable.
