I have found 36 silver half dollars in a box once. I have also gone more than three + boxes with nothing. I call those dud boxes.

I usually pick up at bank A, and walk to the gourmet deli a block away. I have a nice breakfast and edge search the box right there at the table. I take my time, but honestly how long does it take to edge search a box, 20-30 minutes? Then I walk across the street and dump all the halves I don't want into the counting machine at bank B. (Bank B has free coin counting if you keep $100 in your checking account btw) The counting machines also reject silver coins, so I may find a few silver coins by checking the reject slot on the machine as well.

Then I go to bank C on the other side of that block and buy a box of dimes and maybe a few penny and nickel rolls. I take all that back home via a short cab ride. I usually search those on Sunday when the banks are closed. I work 4 blocks from where I live, and there is a convenient dump bank between my apartment and work, so I usually dump before work. Sometimes I also buy a box at lunch, and keep it going through the week. It helps to live in Manhattan. So many people here are spending money all the time, and it all turns over so quickly that it may be beneficial to the search. I found a little over $100 in face value pre-1964 US silver coins in 2013. they were mostly dimes and quarters, but i did search a total of 3 rolls of half dollars. Are all big metropolitan areas so fruitful?

I got married in 2013. And I have a very stressful and demanding job as an art director in a large advertising company. I am very busy. Which is why I love to spend my Saturday mornings in a quiet place looking through a box of half dollars as slowly as I want to.
