Island of Man is situated in Irish sea and has an area 227 sq.mi. and a population 75000. Island belonged to Norvegian vikings, but then Kingdom of Scotland got it. Since 1346 Island of Man became a dependency from English Crown territory. Since 1405 until 1504 Island of Man was the Kingdom and belonged to the Stanly's Dynasty. King of Island Man was a vassal of the English king.
Since 1504 Island of Man lost the status of Kingdom. His ruler from Stanly's dynasty got status of the Lord of Island of Man. During the English Civil War (40th years of the XVII century) Island of Man was the last bulwark of the Charles I. Lord James Stanly controlled this island until 1651 but then he united his troops with the army of Prince Charles; that army was defeated by Oliver Cromvel's troops and Lord James Stanly become the war's prisoner. A several days ago he was executed.
After restoration of monarchy in England, family of Stanly returned the island of Man under the own control. In 1765 British Parliament bought the Island of Man for 75000 pounds from his owner. Now the Island of Man has an own currensy (pound of Island of Man) and ruler - Lord of Island of Man (Elisabeth II).
Yes, I agree, they have many nicely designed pieces. My "main problem" with the Isle of Man is that they issue waaay too many of them. But you sure have an interesting collection! Christian
