I agree, I would not want the scratched or the corroded. But the VG-8 would be a nice coin to have.

I would go for the VG-8, no problem coin.

Just as you are heming and hawing, so will the buyer when you go to sell the problem pieces (some day).

i am with the others on this. I would take the VG-8. solid grade and problem free.

If you put it on Ebay I bet it will sell for at least $500. It has VF-35 Details but with those scratches it is hard to assign a net grade to the coin. Of the three coins, the problem free VG-8 is of course the most desirable and valuable.

thats sad that someone would actually do that to such a rare coin. i'd buy the second one too if i had the chance.

    I with you.

But it seems with older copper (namely 1790s - early 1800s large cents), one often has to settle for corroded coins. There seem to be so few problem free examples, so they are always top $. They're like a market unto themselves.

I've heard it happens in vindictive breakups.

I've been spared; I have a good thing going !

Second coin - VG 8. My personal opinion is 09 S VDB has plenty available to were you do not need to get a scratched coin. At the same time that is the only way some people might ever own the coin, but to me you are better off with the VG 8 coin.
