Is this struck through? Is this an error coin?

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by Nicholas Mullen, Dec 1, 2019.

  1. I found a nickel from 2001 and it is strange. It seems to have a part of the Monticello struck through the obverse next to Jefferson's back head and its thinner coin than others from the time period with a strange texture. Please let me know what's going on with this coin.

First, welcome to the neighborhood, Nicholas!

You're seeing something that isn't there. It's called pareidolia.

  4. Hello I apologize it was behind the head not the nose, and also what is wrong with this coin then and why is it so much thinner and darker with the three rows on the side of the head?

Looks like a war-nickel but there has to be some obvious reason why it looks like that :wacky:

That's okay. No need to apologize. I still think you're seeing something that isn't there. It happens a lot when someone is intent on finding some sort of error. It's no different than seeing a strange formation in the clouds.

I see something there, but might just be a stain...

  8. The three bars on the left look like the Monticello reverse. That's my opinion. It isnt a stain it's a visible 3 indents running vertically.

  11. It does actually. I wonder if maybe something damaged it in that way?
