Dont worry in the late 70's A dealer was offered two bags of 1889 CC's. For a measly $8,000 total. he passed on them, didnt even kep the guys contact info. Or so the legend goes. The bags never resurfaced, such a shame, theyre probably sitting in some musky storage as we speak. They probably did have bags, and broke them apart to sell, or found a huge hoard to break apart. The one I have is the bank of new york, dated 1906. being circulated, I could only guess how they got intot hat bag.
Ohhh lol metal detectors. Yes she would go nuclear war on my rear end. That's why it stays at my buddies house, whom she despises, he lives within a hour of 2 goldmines, 3 ghosttowns, and 2 very popular lakes. I have very good pickings. I got two washed up rolexs from the lake this year. And bunch of older coins from the mines and towns. It's fun, but i would expect to sleep on the couch with one eye open for a kong if she found out. Lol
If you mean pre-federal or colonial - no. Bags were not used until much later. In colonial times, and for quite a while after the US came into being, coins were distributed and stored in wooden kegs.
Thanks for clarifying... I meant modern day bags, sacks, etc, where they had been later stuffed into.....
No, because one of the stores, is a we buy gold/silver, with high end jewelery as well. Have usually a couple rolexs in stock. These two I brought home, ended up selling the lower ended one. The second I am getting repaired, once fixed it will be worth a very nice chunk of change. Yes thats what I have. However counted only 100. 88 look like they were in the ground. more than 60 have verdgris... Did purchase two sacks of peace dollars today though.
