Is this just a zinc plated penny?

    Found a silver penny in a old roll

    Yes. All 1943 cents were made of zinc plated steel. This was due to a copper shortage during WWII.

    However, it may be that the coin is oversized because it was once in a 'lucky penny' holder.

    part of jewlery, if you have a 1943 COPPER penny than that is a rare error worth almost as much as my house!

    I'm not trying to change the subject, but it was just last week that I mentioned that it would only take about three generations for people to forget about Mint releases of the past. I used as an example the 1943 steel cent. See, folks! I wasn't wrong!
