Hey I have these 2 coins of George III which appear to be copper coins but the reverse has the same design as sixpence coins? any thoughts?
These are contemporary forgeries - made in the early 19th century to pass off as sixpences. At the time they would have been silvered. They are collectable, but not hugely valuable. There are many varieties and they also forged shillings and halfcrowns at the same time. A risky business - still officially a capital offence at the time, although this was usually commuted to Transportation to the Colonies.
