Is this considered a die crack?

    It looks like post-mint damage (PMD). A crack on a die would leave a raised mark on the coin. That is because the metal would flow into the void created by the crack on the die.

    Yep, those are gashes.....someone playing around with a nail I bet.

    Wow, that's a biggun'! It actually almost looks like the start of a lamination.

    It looks like a crack to me because it appears raised. Here is one of my favorite lamination errors.

    Die cracks are found on the die itself. The metal from a blank Planchet flows into the crack when the blank is struck so it would look raised as the examples provided in the other posts. A cracked planchet is on the planchet itself. Totally different issue.
