Is this coin struck through grease? Or heavily worn?

One of my friends found this coin and showed it to me, and I was unsure of what it was.

I have heard this term used many times. I do not question it; however out of curiosity, has anyone here on CT ever put a cent in a dryer to see how long it would take to do this? I don't wish for hearsay. Has anyone actually done this for themselves and how long does it take?

These things come from commercial laundromat dryers. The coins get stuck between the inner and outer drums.
