I was at a coin auction a while back and purchased a sheet of nickels and pennies. When I got home I realized that there was a few red point coins and an odd coin dated 1776 along with the others. I researched this coin for quite a while and found out that the pattern is a New Hampshire Copper. I couldn't find any other info on it and I'm not even sure if any original coins were made. Please tell me if it is real and how much it is worth. Thank You!! (Note: pics aren't the best due to low res camera.)
Welcome, is there any way to get a better, bigger pic. Have it weighed so someone familiar with colonials can answer your question? Also, the way you got the coin is a bit different and anything goes when something like that happens. How do you think this coin got in your stuff you bought? Any idea?
These have been popping up all over the place, on coin forums, on metal detecting forums etc. One of these was posted here a while ago. Most of them are identical. Determined to be fakes. http://www.cointalk.com/t48524/
That coin has been featured on History Channel's TV Show, Pawn Stars. It was made by Paul Revere in 1776 but sadly, the ones with WM on the reverse are fake, and it looks like yours is one of them. Hope this info helps. -coinmaster1.
Thanks Ikandiggit my coin has the R stamped on it like the one in your link. My coin is probably fake but i will borrow a better camera and post those pics.
