So I took Diomedes' new picture of the obverse, reduced the colour saturation to zero, and banged the contrast up to maximum et voila - pure silver! Lodge probably left a little colour in the image which gives a hint of the patina. Edit: I also increased the gamma to c.2.2 as well.
I think what is more likely is that their lighting is directly overhead and being reflected perpendicularly off the coin's surface into the camera. This will often enhance the coin's details but wash out the true color.
