How about a link to the sale?

The coins I linked are artificially toned...the images were taken from the seller Unique_N_Toned's Ebay auctions last year. I don't own coins like that nor would I ever sell them if I did. I do sell certified toned coins on Ebay and if anyone wanted to take a look there is a link in the classified section. My goal in posting here is not to drum up business...it's about educating folks so they don't waste their money buying artificially toned coins which have little value above melt.

I wasn't talking about your stuff. I was interested in the 'problem seller's'
    stuff.

Sorry, but all are AT. There are plenty of times when I will disagree with Shane, but this isn't one one of them.

Is it me or the pictures? The luster on all those coins looks non-existent versus an NT coin which still has some luster on it.

That is certainly one of the key signs to look for and I believe in hand it would be even more noticable.....toning should not hide the luster on a coin, the luster should still show through...but I have AT coins where the luster shows through just fine but it's still AT as heck lol

Read this statement by KRYPTONITECOMICS again;....posting a coin here to have other folks who may be just as green as yourself in detecting AT can get you in a lot of trouble and waste $$$.

I truly respect Shane's input and believe him 100% that he is attempting to educate collectors about the various pit falls coin collectors are now faced with. If your here to agitate posters and toss out negativity, best you move along.

I'm glad that I did not voice an opinion about this Morgan until an expert took a look see...we have learned much from the contribution of a learned collector.

    Happy Collecting

But wait.. First, I was not kidding. I consider myself knowledgeable.(sp!) And, I most certainly am a collector. I do not and will not, ever see any difference in a toned coins value whether it be NT or AT . That is my story and I am sticking to it! Those silly coin doctors of begone eras and their sulfur laden albums that created the bulls eye toning. sheesh...

BTW - Is there even a clear, easy to understand, concise, widely accepted definition of what Artificial or Natural Coin Tone is? I should Google?

It only "ruins" coins for those who feel a coin is more valuable untoned. Obviously for some, toned coins have value, otherwise they wouldn't sell. Best case and very recent case in point was the common PCGS wheatie I just bid on and lost at 2 times the PCGS stated value.

In the grand scheme of things, I think that this segment of the coin collecting hobby serves to help increase the value of all collectible coins, thereby enticing or attracting more to collect, which in turn creates more demand on a limited supply, that ends up increasing the value. and around and around we go! :)

Apparently unlike you, I do respect everyone's opinion. MY posts are often written to do exactly that, get some passionate opinions and counterpoints rolling. Thank you for your reply. Your response/post is an affirmation of what I think is going on with this subject.

I understand that my likes and dislikes along with my opinions are often agitating to those who see/feel differently than I do. I am trying to get a grip on exactly why.... When obviously there is a demand for these type of coins...

"Pit falls" I don't understand. What Pitfall? It's not like we dealing with a fad like beanie babies or mood rings or lava lamps.. lol tried to buy a Lava lamp recently... Why do you want to turn away coin collectors who see value in something different than you do?

I'll tell you all, I'm a little confused. It's been discussed in several threads how, if AT is done correctly, it's impossible, even for TP'ers, to tell the difference. So, how can anyone say with certainty, based on pics, it is AT. Granted, there are extreme examples of AT that were not done properly - like most of the pics at the link posted in this thread. But, the reverse of the OP's dollar sure looks NT, so why would the obverse be AT? I'd say that's one that's not clear from the pics and maybe not even in hand.

Shane, I would recommend to you and anyone else who makes declarative statements such as above and not have actual proof, such as a video of him doing it, to state it as an an opinion rather than as a fact. IMO. :)

I tracked this seller using his alt Ebay ID buying untoned coins and then magically the same coins would appear toned in less than a week under his unique and toned handle. All information and auction numbers were turned over to ebay so the proof and the facts speak for themselves. If anyone doubts anything I have posted...spend your $50 on one of his creations, send the coin to PCGS or NGC and when it comes back artificially toned then consider that a cheap lesson learned. The biggest problem with AT coins is that the surfaces are not stable like naturally toned coins. When you start adding heat and chemicals then all bets are off and a lot of these creations will continue to tone and ultimately turn black. So when folks ask whats the difference.......it's not all about the appearence...it's about what your left with 5 years down the road.

    What the....

I started this thread to get an opinion and it has turned into a bunch of trash talking, finger pointing, and accusations. I would like to have it removed please. I tried to do it myself but I can't for some reason. I never meant to cause all of this. PLEASE REMOVE ALL OF MY POSTS IN THIS THREAD. Thank you

That doesn't sound very respectful of Kyrptonite's opinion. I think Kryptonite's photos show some pretty obviously AT'ed coins.

Shane, how come you didn't put my 63 PF Franklin in your album? Wasn't it good enough for you?

Coinsnake, I understand your concerns this thread has taken. I think it gets down to the fact may people cannot see the difference easily between AT and NT. If someone really is a tone fan, maybe they could do a thread that could be nominated for a sticky that shows and explains to one and all types of NT versus types of AT and how to spot the differences. There will be a large amount of "not sure" in the middle, but there should be plenty of obviously AT coins to show, and WHY everyone thinks they are AT. Just photos of AT doesn't help a lot to a newcomer on WHY everyone thinks its AT.

I just think that could help everyone on these boards to get us all up to speed on these discussions, and maybe eliminate some confusion. To me, I just don't comment on if someone thinks its AT since I would want to see the coin in hand.
