OMG, I never realized that they were so lopsided. I apologise. I wonder why the MS coin isn't commanding a huge premium over the proof?
Really Mike it all boils down to what people will pay.... look at the mintages for the Buffalo Dollar. Way up there but people are willing to pay for them. 2001D (MS)-227,131 2001P (Proof)-272,869 Go figure....
what I was alluding to was the fact that the mintage of the UNC dollars are 1/10 the proof mintage and yet the market prices are about the same. What gives?
What exactly do you mean prime time for high prices on ebay? What exactly are you talking about? These things are dirt cheap. You can get proofs sets graded ms69 for less than $30. IMO that is still a ripoff. What do the ms70 go for? Sweet Mother of Bull Moose...... http://www.paradisemint.com/2008-Presidential-Dollar-Four-Coin-Set-PCGS-PR70-DCAM-_p_56-923.html OMG>>>>>I FEEL SORRY FOR ANY SUCKER WHO PAYS FOR THESE.....
I had NO idea MS70 Pres $s were actually being sold for that kind of money.... Absolutely ridiculous IMO. Way too big of a risk for those kind of prices. Especially in an ANACS holder. Maybe people think the MS70s are made of real gold. Who tricked these fools? I actually feel like my life is no more.... Presidential dollar prices have actually de-souled me. I am without animus.
Wait a second Conder, you might be right. 2007 Red Book.... 2005P (MS)-130,000 2005P (Proof)-370,000 So which volume is correct? Or can we trust Red Book at all? Somebody call Elaine.....
thank you for the corrected mintage figures. I knew that 49,000 was too low for the UNC. Even still green18, there was an authorized mintage of 600k and your figures add up to 500k. The US Mint may not have coined the entire authorized mintage, but for some reason, I believe that they did. The Red Book obviously has a typo of sorts. I'd check last year's edition. Truthfully, I would check several sources now until I find 3 that agree. whew! ::::mumbling off into the corner:::: I am NOT losing my mind... I am NOT losing my mind.... I am NOT losing my mind
Mike, This kind of stuff can drive one crazy.....know what you mean. 2008 and 2007 Red Book have the stats. 2006 (mine at least) has no info on the Marine Corp. dollar. Guess we need 2009 (or '10 or '11)?
