I found this note the other day, and it looked sort of cool. I've see specimen notes with the same style punching, but they had the word Specimen. I have not see one like this. I know more than likely it is an after release alteration, but I figured there may be an expert that would know more.
I have no clue as to your question but it is interesting. The last 5 digits of the serial number punched into the paper. Watching for someone knowledgeable to chime in.
Looks like 0 2 7 0 4 hole punched in the note which matches the last five of the serial number. Never seen anything like it before.
Even though it looks like a professional job, i think that someone just took a hole punch and tried to maybe increase the value.
Not a paper person Steve, but was there any time there was still re-imbursement of the certificate with silver they were punched to cancel further use for that purpose?? Just guessing. Jim
I had a similar thought as I've seen many checks punch cancelled that had special payment stamps on them. Doucumentary/potato/tobacco, other food stuffs and also stock certificates.
I would have (naively) assumed that all certificates redeemed for silver would go back for destruction. I can't imagine why they'd be punched matching a partial serial number. Of course, my imagination is limited.
