Is this a proof coin? How to determine if it is.

    Yes, but the mint tolerances on both are great enough that the weight ranges overlap a LOT. So weight is not a conclusive way to tell them apart.
    coppernickel range is 5.44 - 5.9 grams 40% silver is 5.55 - 5.95 grams.

    I was wondering when I saw the file names for the quarter's obverse and reverse as ancient coin 7 and ancient coin 6
