I've been holding onto this 1980 D dime for a few years now, and I am just wondering if it is a bizarre printing error or just damaged. Anyone have any idea. Thanks!
Damaged, been subjected to high heat which caused bubbles to expand between the clad layers which have later flattened.
Welcome to the neighborhood! It looks like this coin was damaged in a fire. Coins are struck by two dies in a press coming together under tons and tons of pressure with a planchet of coin metal between them. Paper currency is printed. Chris
@cpm9ball is correct, fire or high heat damage, called PMD, post mint damage and has no value over face, if someone will accept your damaged coin.
