The coins in between may have been caught by a more alert operator and removed. The absence of stages is not conclusive. I want to see any mint reports of die metal irregularities during that time frame, as they must have been obvious to cause creeps.

Many other kinds of die deformation errors show the same pattern, in that you find a single level of severity. For example, the 1943-S "goiter" quarter and 1926-D "goiter" cent show no variation in the size of their respective swellings. This lack of variation would appear to reflect a period of rapid deformation and then stabilization. Stabilization may be due to work hardening as the die strikes numerous planchets.

image.jpg I have a 2003-D Lincoln penny with what looks like a small "7" just above Lincoln's eye. If it does turn out to be just that, is it a noteworthy error worth any type of value??

It's not.... so no, it doesn't.

To clarify, I cannot see well enough to say with certainty exactly what it is (there could be a variety of causes), but can tell you with said certainty, that it's not an error or an actual 7 somehow misplaced.

Would someone mind helping me on clarifying if this 1969-S is doubled??

  8. go to a thread related to that and ask there maybe. @Lucockus22

No harm in his asking, but it is always best to start a new thread as opposed to an older one or a glorified ad.
