Is this a mint state half cent?

    Whether or not it’s Mint State, it’s probably going to be sold as a lower end Mint State piece. It is probably what dealers used to call “commercial Unc.”

    From the technical grading standpoint, it needs to have mint luster in the fields to be a true Unc. The photos don’t show if that is true. I have no doubt that the tiny bit of red you see is original. It’s still possible to have some red and still not be Mint State. This coin has been part of a “family accumulation,” not a coin that has been carefully preserved by collectors.
