That answer depends on a lot of things. The short answer is die cracks usually have a higher premium, though some detract from the coin and can actually lower value. The things that matter are montage of coin (very high for Lincoln cents), grade of coin, size of crack, location of crack, etc. this is a smaller crack in a location that generally gets cracks and the coin appears to be circulated. Not likely to see more than a buck or two from this, if anyone will buy it at all. I would keep it, but would it pay for it myself.
Welcome to CT!! Die crack...yes. Huge...no. This is actually a very common place for an LMC to have a die crack. Some stop at the Memorial while others, like yours, continue onto it. Like stated above they are fun to find, but have no real added value.
I see. Thanks for explaining that. I have another question.. I have a 1972 D with a double ear? And it has one of the circular indents around the coin? Is the doubled ear mean it's a doubled die coin and is that even a known year for it? And what is the circular indents around pennies? I appreciate the help. Coins are fascinating. But a lot to learn .
The doubled ear is supposed to be a good coin. But those are different years than your coin. 84,88,97. Not 72. I don't know if I see it or not. Just take a regular photo of the coin. And post it in FULL not thumbnail, and then when you click on them here after they have been posted, they usually enlarge.
My gut is your second coin is DDD or Die Deterioration Doubling. Very common and adds no premium. The circular line is PMD. Post Mint Damage.
Hmm... I have a USB microscope. It would show what needs to be seen better ? If anyone cares to see....?
