I'm looking to start a collection of swiss coins, is this a good book for prices? http://www.coinsupplyexpress.com/2011-official-blackbook-price-guide-to-world-coins-sku-49002.aspx
I guess that depends on how you define good. Some prices will be too high, others too low, and others just right. But there is no rhyme or reason to help you understand which is which. About the only thing that book or any other book similar to it is good for is to give you a rough, stress rough, idea of what a given coin might be worth. Prices listed in books like this can be off by 100%, sometimes 200-300% - an in either direction. The only way to find out accurate prices for coins is to study the market yourself. You have to check numerous dealer prices and check numerous realized auction prices.
