image.jpg image.jpg I just recently found this coin in my Father's old drawers. I know nothing about coins, so any insight would be appreciated.

From the research I've done it seems the chances of this coin being authentic are next to nothing, but making sure seems like a good idea!

No, it's a poorly made cast counterfeit.

It's bubbly and everything looks wrong.

These were being sold in my local 5 & 10 store when I was a kid, back in the 60's. Cast replica. I think they were something around 25 cents to buy. (Everything was no longer 5 & 10 even back then )

To my knowledge the Continental Congress did not have authority to mint coins. If wrong, I apologize on the front end.

I remember back in the 70's I had a coin like the one above, but in copper . I don't remember where it went. Somewhere at my parent place.

I don't know as I'd even call it a counterfeit, it's so poorly made. Perhaps "non-HPA-compliant replica" would be more appropriate. :p

I spotted one of these on eBay while trolling for something else, messaged the seller and they took it down within a couple hours. These things are really common, unfortunately.

I'm not sure it's subject to the HPA. I don't think my copy from the Cato Institute is stamped either.

Just once, I'd like to see someone ask this question and have a genuine coin.

I think they were made prior to the HPA. I remember having one in the early 70s as a kid. A souvenir of America's bicenntennial.

Nope. I have a very nice copy made back in the early '60's but it looks TOO nice.

I can't quite recall who made it as I bought it back in the mid 1970's and haven't looked at it in many years.

That one is definitely fake as well. This is one of the most heavily faked early American coins.
