Is this a fingerprint

    Is this a fingerprint? If so, what are the long term affects on the coins surface

    it very well may be a finger print could we see full images of the coin so i can tell for sure?

    It has the look but a full image would be cool.

    If it is a fingerprint you now have a coin with a fingerprint on it . Try and find one without one.

    The spacing between lines looks a bit big for a finger print to me, but a full picture is necessary.

    Does it matter whether it's a fingerprint or some other type of toning?

    I dont know about you, but I don't like fingerprints on my coins, so yes it does....

    I don't like them but sometimes they might be overlooked depending on the coin.
    I was just curious that if you were told it isn't a fingerprint that you would find the look of the coin acceptable.

    I would say no. The changes in the luster seem to be indifferent to the feature, such as a raised detail or a protected area of the field. IMO.

    I am answering the question on the original coin. I can not see the 2nd coin well enough, even on the hosting site to state a strong opinion, but I would be surprised if it was either.
