On March 11, 2006, I bought a Shield Nickel from Great Southern coin. It is a nice coin except that it has a small checkmark scratch. The owner there stated that the coin had no such scratch when it was photographed. They had photographed the coin with that part of the coin in an area of glare, where no details would show. They are a bit slick, imho. Later, he said he did see the scratch in some of their other photos, after I brought it up and sent photos to him.

Also, $11.00 for shipping is over the top as far as I'm concerned. I paid only $5,.00 shipping, still very high. Knowing ebay fairly well, I know that just the shipping charge will eliminate most ebay buers from considering a purchase with such exhorbitant shipping costs added.

And the higher shipping, which would be forfeited if an item was returned, probably keeps some buyers from returning coins.

At first he said no refund or return, but then recanted and offered me a refund. Though I still like my coin, I will not do business with this company again. If my experience is typical, and I am not saying that it is, a lot of buyers have very expensive coins that have some problems not shown in photos or item descriptions. If you watch their listings you will see that they never seem to mention any fault of their coins. While the grades may be accurate from a wear standpoint, I'll bet most have some similar problem that limits their value to much less than you will have to spend to buy them.

I kept the coin because it is such a nice example, even with a scratch, which is slight.
And the higher shipping, which would be forfeited if an item was returned, probably keeps some buyers from returning coins. At first he said no refund or return, but then recanted and offered me a refund. Though I still like my coin, I will not do business with this company again. I kept the coin because it is such a nice example, even with a scratch, which is slight.
