My 9 year old Grandson surprised me with this for my B day last night. He had a bit of help I am sure. 1216170922.jpg 1216170921.jpg

I'd leave it just the way it is.

Don't think dipping will improve the coin.

Happy Birthday! & congrats on a really nice circulated piece from that era - imagine who's hands it passed through on its journey!

Reminds me of the Aggie who was in the Olympics & won a gold medal in his event - he was so proud that he had it bronzed!!! (In other words, don't do it - it's perfect as is.)

Cherish it the way it is (don't dip).

TY Guys! Yea he is in 4th grade and starting book reports and such. I figured a story on where he thought this coin has been, Who's pocket and such would be a good report. It is only my second peace dollar I think he did good. He has not told me how much the local guy whacked him and his dad on it either. :nailbiting::happy:

Happy birthday! A thoughtful gift from a grandson. It's a nice, original coin. No need to dip.

    "Is this a Dipper?"

No it isn't. And unless I miss my guess it has already been dipped long ago.

Especially as it was a gift from your grandson, I would keep it just the way it is.

Don't do it. Dipping would not improve its appearance or its value. It would only make it look, well, dipped. And, being a special gift, dipping would make it a bit less special.

Agree with the special gift thing which trumps all else. Also agree it isn’t a dipper but that’s because it’s to worn, it wouldn’t look right dipping a coin with that much circulation.

How about a nice acetone bath? Would that do anything positive for the coin?

As there's no remaining luster, dipping it would just leave it looking uniformly dull silver. As-is, there's a bit of contrast between the fields and devices which makes it a bit more visually appealing.

Actually there is a bit of luster on the obverse. Enough to where I thought it may have been cleaned just my pics do not show it.

Cleaning in any form will make it look less appealing than it now looks.

Great gift! I have given silver dollars as gifts many times, though I can not remember getting one for me that way since my grandmother gave me a cartwheel for my birthday when I was a little brat. That 9 year old grandson will probably be a big time collector as he grows up, and I bet he will have some of your coins in his collection.

Either leave it as is or give it an acetone bath followed by a hot water bath followed by a pat dry with a soft towel...or just leave it alone.
