Seems to me that it’s the same coin that can be bought from many dealers … just has fancy packaging. If so, the mint stating a mintage of 7,000 is misleading. Some folks may think there will be only be 7,000 when real the count will probably be over 100,000 and maybe over 200,000. Packaging isn’t minting! Cal
It's different as it has a "W" mintmark (similar to the burnished W mint mark silver eagles vs the regular bullion versions). The mint specifies: "The American Eagle One Ounce Gold Uncirculated Coin is a collector version of the official United States Mint American Eagle Gold Uncirculated Bullion Coin"
If it reaches the full 7,000 mintage, then it won't be the lowest. The 2012-W and the 2017-W are both below that number. https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/2012-w-50-burnished-gold-eagle/514673 https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/2017-w-50-burnished-gold-eagle/627524
I got one coming from the Mint, but I think I will return it. Prices on eBay show no profit to be made on this one.
Hopefully you didn't return it Robert. Prices are already selling for $1,400 OVER the price the U.S. mint sold these for. I kept mine.
