Hi! I have bought a george ii sixpence at a coin show last year, and I am wondering if it is authentic or fake. below are some pictures of the coin.
Do you have diameter and weight? This isn't my area of expertise, but you can at least compare those to the real deal and make sure they are the same.
Well, I'll say this, the weight may be right, but there's a lot that looks off about the coin. The lettering doesn't have the right serifs (on either side), the reverse images are missing details or are too thin at certain points. My inclination is to say it's a fake, but it's much easier to discern when the size or weight is way off, which is why I asked for the information. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces27966.html
I think you're comparing apples to oranges. It looks good to me (although I make no claim to any expertise).
Not sure what you mean by apples to oranges. This coin does not look like a long circulated sterling silver coin to me. There are lots of parts that don’t look right, like the rims. Again, not an expert here and my happy to be wrong. Hopefully one more familiar with it can chime in.
Just that you linked to a high grade 1728, and the coin in question is a low grade 1735. Very difficult to compare the two. To me, the wear pattern looks ok, and the minor differences could be attributed to a different die. Posting it here would elicit a far more knowledgeable opinion than I can offer.
