Also I think, and that can be dangerous, that it would only be legal to melt cents for profit if they are demonetized right? That's not likely to happen I don't think. They may stop producing it but I don't see them demonetizing it anytime soon. JMHO, and I'm just speculating.

It would make CENTS (see what I did there) for the US mint to stop producing them however as they are minted at a loss being that they cost more than a cent to make. Even using zinc.

They won’t stop producing them nor demonitize.

The American people have steadfastly shot down any legislative attempt at stopping the cent. There are several reasons but I will list 3:
They can’t seem to want to let Abe go, they insist on continuing their love affair with the “penny” and no matter how much sense it makes or how much logic you pack into your argument, from what I have read is the American public refuse to engage with rounding up or down.
