All this conversation about halves ,nickels, pennies ,etc. The way it looks well all be using cryptocurrency. I heard it cost more to make a penny than it's worth but at least someone is working until they come up with robots.
Sorry to hear about that. Yes, a cash drawer has 5 slots. In fact, you can move the dividers and add or remove as necessary. Some of us are just to lazy.
It would rot away quickly (though not as quickly as if it were copper-plated). It would wear and abrade far too quickly (zinc is very soft, softer than pure copper). It easily forms soluble compounds (as it corrodes), and those compounds are toxic at higher doses, as well as bad for the environment. Zinc is a terrible metal for coins (except as an alloy component, I suppose). Aluminum is superior in every way I can think of.
Thanks for the info but I was being sarcastic. You should see some of the Zinc cents I have. Probably time for a posting.
Yes, Germany removed coinage in all occupied countries and replace it with Zinc, Aluminum and Aluminum-Bronze issues. The new Zinc coins were bright and shiny when first released but after a few short months in circulation they well dull and as ugly as our zlincolns Cents are. Some war issues are scarce today.
