What the guys are trying to tell you is that even attempting to identify a '64 SMS Kennedy from a picture is an effort in futility. Even the '65, '66, and '67 SMS examples, when sent to the TPGs, have been labeled as SMS when graded the first time, and then when sent in for upgrade or re-grade they were labeled as business strikes. And the same thing has happened with the very few '64 SMS coins.

So if those considered to be the "best" can't identify these coins with any degree of certainty with an in hand inspection, trying to do so based on a picture - well, like I said, it's an effort in futility.

But if you think your coin/s is an SMS, by all means send it/them in for grading and attribution. But I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the answer you want if I were you.

That makes sense I figured that's how it is with photos. I've honestly never seen an older Silver Coin that would be considered Satin like the 1921-22 Specimen Peace Dollars or a Satin proof Buffalo Nickel. I was more so wondering if anybody has enough experience with them to judge a difference. I got a great picture of a 1964 Nickel that to me, looks exactly like even the most doctored PCGS photos of the SMS yet has a smooth mirror shine behind the outer devices when tilted in the light. I just wondered if anybody thought that it was a close enough call on SMS to send it out. Thanks guys.

I think the odd direction polish lines and squared rims on the cent, nickel, and dime are a good indication it may be worth sending out based on the descriptions from PCGS. Does NGC even attribute the SMS 1964's anymore? That's who I would normally use because if these were to be SMS, I only want them attributed, not sold. The difference in auction price ultimately means nothing so it's not worth paying crazy fees unless they're the absolute only chance.
