Is it rare to have a 1988 D penny to look this good?

Most 1988 pennies are all dark and corroded. These look fairly nice..

Lincoln pennies have no full steps designation

 

I'll go for "unusual", but not even "scarce", let alone "rare". As CB said, steps are for Jefferson nickels, not Lincoln cents. And don't look for split bands or full heads, either. No bell lines or full horns, either.

Well we took him to the hospital because he couldn't walk without falling and wobbling over they said he had an infection,fever high white blood count and dehidtrated. They gave him antibiotics and said if it didn't work then he could have something wrong with his kidneys and it could be cancer. They didn't want to go that far just yet.

 

And I'm sorry about your dog

 

Blessings to you and your kitty. I completely understand how much it pains us to see them suffer.

 

If nothing else put them in a sealed tupperwear container and keep them.

I read more about cat and dogs then the coins. My heart goes out to all pet owners that have these types of issues. My best friend, a married woman, called me 2 weeks ago and asked to burrow $1000.00 so her dog could have surgery. No questions asked but he's home and almost back to his normal self. She'll pay me back later but I just postponed buying a few coins. I'm glad that I could be there to help her and you don't find friends like her but once in a lifetime.

 

This. This right here is why I cannot cut Roger W. Burdette any slack. There's a special place in Hades for cat haters.
