I just noticed this seller has a few lots listed with "Cuba" in the title. That was an automatic no-no before. It's not in the coins category but I didn't think you could list it anywhere. What do you think? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-11-...028016?hash=item3af7f36a70:g:g1MAAOSwIVhaDzCr
Putting Cuba coins returns quite a few listings https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr....H0.Xcuba+coins.TRS0&_nkw=cuba+coins&_sacat=0
It used to be you couldn't even type the word "Cuba" in your listing. You'd get an error message when you tried to submit it.
Plenty of them sell, but it's all against policy. They won't allow you to list them and will remove them if they find them. That's why this is strange to me.
I guess I don't quite understand why Cuba isn't allowed to be in eBay titles? I didn't even know there was a policy. Please tell me the people at eBay aren't still hung up in 1962.
Because they don't want to deal with what is and isn't allowed so they just ban it all. Paypal is the one you really get hit by for doing it
I did. It seems like they're all being listed under "historic memorabilia." I wonder if this is a loophole somehow? I don't see what the difference would be as far as the embargo goes, but I'm not a genius eBay policymaker.
Yes, that is the loophole. Apparently the keyword filter only cares about "Cuba" in the coins and paper money category. Someone with a direct line to eBay corporate must have purchased a fake Cuban peso at some point
Hard to believe that Cuban coins were ever banned, makes no cents. Must be the strong lobby forces from Miami.
I could see there being sanctions against sending money to Cuba, but not buying Cuban coins listed by someone not living in Cuba.
I just went and looked up "Cuba Coins" on eBay and there are lots listed - currency and coins - even some with Fidel himself on them! Must be an urban myth.
It's not a myth. Only a few months ago I got three auctions removed by eBay. Other people have been banned from Paypal. I don't know why some people are getting away with it, but it seems to depend on what category you use.
