I rarely search dimes anymore because it's so boring. Silver finds are extremely rare and other than that the only ones I save are 2009s. Quarters used to be boring too but now with the State/Nat Park series I can hunt for barely circulated samples of those. But nickels and pennies are most rewarding to search since I save wheats, coppers, buffaloes, war nickels and 2009s all of which I can find semi-regularly.
I used to have pretty good luck with boxes of dimes in that I'd never get totally skunked on the boxes. I'd only get dime boxes while waiting on ordered boxes of halfs to arrive. Pretty much every silver dime I found were Roosies but my wife did find a mercury one time.
In my experience, it totally depends on the bank, and the management there. At my one Wells Fargo, ALL of the cashiers are very aware of half dollars, to the point they search the newly brought in CWR for silver.... whereas at one of my BofA's, they've often ended up opening the rolls I bring in, because they're not sure what they are!
