Glad you got something too, Whizbro! Nothing wrong with going for what appeals to you. You might want to reassess your ballpark ratings though http://www.cointalk.com/threads/my-ancient-gold-and-silver.222241/ And I'm a newbie muddling through the hundreds of thousands of coins, sometimes goal-directed, sometimes random, sometimes getting lucky, sometimes being utterly stupid. I'd be the waterboygirl on a college team.
Huh?????? Maybe you missed his underbid during the 5/16/2013 NAC auction for this coin: Final price $315K NOT including buyer's premium.
Wow, nice coin, my Manitoba-man!!! => your new coin absolutely rocks!! ... congrats, my friend!! (sweet) ... yah, due to my clipped-wings, I am now gonna live vicariously through your Winnipeg-ness!!
I've actually paid over 100K for a coin a few times: and... one which I've been waiting to post for a while now... (which admittedly deserves its own thread):
So now you know, Whizbro. Joe's not playing in a baseball park, he's in the freakin' Flavian Amphitheater!
Aw we don't have the bowing smiley face on this forum. Damn. I will have to settle for this And now I know he is the NFL and MLB wrapped up into one awesome coin loving package. (sorry I have been watching a lot of sports this weekend.)
Wow Whiz4 i like this coin, i looked a this last night, some one should post all the auctions, i've been wondering where you guys get all your cool coins... I only buy from local shows, club members, and vcoins, looks like there's are many more to get awesome coins out there..very cool..
that is a very nice new coin WB...and that new coin of yours AJ is just ...wow. AJ always cranks his coins up to 11. i'm still on the wagon. stupid wagon.
I'm on the wagon as well, but I was watching some of the Pecunem lots with interest, in particular to one because I had won the exact same type of an apparently unpublished Severus Alexander from Alexandria Troas in CNG's most recent eAuction. My coin is admittedly in a poorer grade than the one in the Pecunem auction (CNG grades mine a gF versus Pecunem's nEF for theirs), but I'm still not sure if it warrants a price more than 6 times what I paid for mine? Here's the one I won for $130 : And here's the link to the Pecunem one : https://www.pecunem.com/auction-9/lot-344 Z.
Grats, Whiz. I do like alot of Postumus's coins and this one looks particularly nice, especially with that toning. Agree on the eye appeal. Z.
Awesome coin, zumbly ... I agree that the Pecunem coin doesn't seem to be worth "6 times" as much as your sweet example ... but I also haven't researched the coin-type to determine what either are worth (people seem to pay exponentially more for coins as the grade ekes its way upward, eh?) => but either way => congrats on your sweet new purchase!! (nice animal coin!!)
That Flavian Amphitheater is a great example of a coin worth its ridiculously high price. A worn or corroded one without all the fine detail in the building and crowd just would not be the same. Whatever conservation work that was done was done well. I have not seen many of these coins and am in no position to say if there are better ones but I have to wonder how another coin could be an upgrade to this one. Yesterday I saw a program on the National Geographic channel on the history of the 1933 US 20 gold (the scrapped up and mishandled worst known sold for $6+ million but it is the only one even remotely legal to own even though it will not be likely to sell again in my life). If I had $6 mil to spend on coins, the 1933 would not be on my want list. The sestertius would.
