Well, I'd respectfully disagree since the series is dead. It died on a couple of occasions with the first being when PCGS Limited First Day of Issue labels to us small time non-Authorized PCGS Dealers. The real "death blow" came when the Treasury Department (along with our intrepid Joe Biden) stood on the steps of the White House and announced that the Presidential Dollar would no longer be manufactured for general circulation and only enough coins to supply collector demand would be minted. After that........................silence. These are in the same league as the State Quarters Program now which is a smidge above face value. For a collector to purchase one of these sets "just" for the Reverse Proof to add to his/her collection, ain't gonna happen oin any type of large scale which is what would be required for any price increases. Those few thousand that want them, pretty much have them and once that market is satisfied, it's "Bye Bye-Ville" for these coins. It happened with the State Quarters, it happened with the Eisenhower Dollars, and for the CnClad versions, it happened with the Kennedy Half Dollar. The market is extremely thin and extremely "thin" markets don't really appreciate that mush. For appreciation, there has to be an "active" market that spans years and these modern issues just don't seem to cut it! The exception might be the SAE but then those are generally regarded as bullion and command a bit more than melt because that market has simply been over-saturated. I'd caution folks into j7umping into the hype surrounding these RP Presidentials since they are literally "blanketed" in Hype. Both by dealers AND collectors. I've got a 1979 Coinage Magazine that talks about the sure-fire, no loss, investment potential of Eisenhower Dollars. It's from February 1979 and specifically relates to the end of the Series and what a great opportunity is waiting the coin collector for assembling a set of IKE's. The ads in the Mag are offering complete sets for $299! Today, $299 for a generic set would almost be criminal. We learn from the past. We lose when we speculate on the future since coin collecting (and coin dealers) have not changed over the past 50 years.
