    @scottishmoney can you illustrate what is written in the LHS picture? I can hardly understand the letter variants/ it looks like jacob or something.
    your accent is very scottish =))))))))

    Thanks @chrisild for the explanation of the d for penny. For years I've bought nails and used the 3d, 4d, etc., designations for 3 penny, 4 penny, etc., but never knew why the d was used.

    It is a Jacobite halfpenny from James II but this was after the so-called Glorious revolution of 1689 when his only realm was the western part of Ireland - the Jacobites were defeated that year 1691. This coin is overstruck on earlier gunmoney which was quite unpopular. After William and Mary established their reign these coins were quickly withdrawn and melted. The Limerick halfpennies are quite scarce.

    @scottishmoney a coin of carrying historical documentation on its sides. very interesting. this one ought to be classified ancient/monument!! should be put in some museum! :pompous:
