Because of Islamic traditions of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aniconism_in_Islam" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aniconism_in_Islam" rel="nofollow">aniconism</a>, their coins do not bear images of sentient creatures like people or animals, rather favoring flowing <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabic_calligraphy" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabic_calligraphy" rel="nofollow">calligraphic</a> inscriptions and geometric designs instead.
