Intro to Civil War Tokens

Wow, I was just at a Coin show on Sunday and saw some fractional currency. I asked about them and the dealer explained the history about them and about Civil War tokens ! A thank you to you and him. A very interesting topic. Just what I need, another coin type to collect !

There are far more store cards /merchant tokens than there are patriotic tokens even so I have always been drawn to the store cards more so than patriotic. I believe the reason is there aren't as many high rated (rarity I mean) patriotic as with the store cards.even though the patriotic r8 may be more desirable or worth more than say a store card r8 .. There are just a lot more r8 s on the store card side of it. Sutlers on the other hand always no matter rating, very desirable and expensive. Have not started to dive in to the sutler pool yet , ill leave that to the deep pockets out there.

 

There are lots of cool ones out there with interesting designs. for the most part, I stick to the "Monitor" Patriotics.
