I just happened to see this listing on eBay from Lanz Numismatik yesterday.
It caught me aback to see such rarity usually sold for a lot of grand. A LOT.

Here is the live eBay link and an archived one:

I wonder about the authenticity to crop up in such a second rate auction platform
as eBay. I am not expert by no means, but it looks like tooling was performed.
Or could it be a double strike, which would be lovely (in the positive sense).

What do you guys think about it? By the way, look at those royal gambs!
He sure does not skip leg days.

Does Lanz ever sell a coin that isn't tooled?

Ebay Lanz is one of the biggest jokes on ebay. They're just a notch above High Jerk/Low Jack***.

I never bid on them anymore.

Doesn't Savoca deal big time in tooled coins as well?

I will never buy a coin from Lanz on any platform even if I am 100% sure it is not tooled.

Question: I have walked and inspected many factories worldwide. Are you telling me that I would have to wear hearing protection and goggles should I visit Lanz's offices, due to all the Rotary Tools being used???

Just remember there's a right way and a wrong way.

I don't know enough about this particular type to make any judgements about this coin but any time one of these threads come up I think it should be prudent to quote Hubert Lanz himself(from a discussion on the coin forgery discussion mailing list) with regards to tooling:

    Restauration is not tooling.
Beauty sells better not only in women.

    And the coin in question:

There are a lot of fake Byzantine coins that are being peddled by Lanz currently. After they lost my shipment twice, I gave up on them years ago. Haven't looked back. They are worse than they were back then now.

Savoca has some really nice coins, if you know what you are buying. They also peddle fake coins as well. I picked up several nice Byzantine coins a while ago from them and skipped a few fake ones as well. Unlike Lanz, they always ship promply...

That guy clogs up my search results with his nonsense auctions. What’s worse is he probably makes decent money with those tactics. Ugh.

I wonder how he manages to claim "Zero customs charges" on his auctions?

No there’s another seller on eBay that has initial astronomical prices but discounts them to make it look like you’re getting a great deal. The coins are still way overpriced even with the discount. His name is something like “high rating low price”.
