Somebody spent a LOT of time on that, you find it in circulation?

    No, sir.
My grandfather's collection. Was just pulling out some old stuff and remembered it. Looks like i can maybe get a razor and scrape away at the material that wrapped around to the front, but i don't want to mess with it. I've shown it at church, only a very few times, and everyone just goes nuts!

A fond memory of your grandfather, it's definitely a keeper. Thanks for sharing.

The stuff on the obverse may just be adhesive. (the coin was glued to something). If so a soak in acetone would probably remove it. But I would be careful though as it looks like the engraving on the reverse may have some "stuff" in it to make it stand out and contrast with the rest of the surfaces. If so an acetone soak might remove that as well.

Thank you for the info. As it's a coin of my late grandfather's, I'm not going to attempt anything that may upset things. I'm just gong to leave her be. Have a great day
