I was going through a 5-gal jug of pennies and nickels and came across a few strange ones. Take a look at these three. What do you think about them? I am new to the site, but it certainly seems like an interesting place to kill some time.
Look at the bright side. At least those three coins didn't take up much room in that 5-gal. jug. Chris
It took plenty of scrubbing to clean my hands every time I took an hour or so to go through them. A 5-gal water jug holds A LOT of pennies and nickels!
If the jug was packed solid with copper it would weigh 372 pounds. Loose pennies don't have the same density but probably fill over 50%, and possibly closer to 65% so your jug must have weighed around 225 pounds. I'm assuming a mixture of copper and zinc cents weighted toward the latter so there would be about 175 pennies to the pound for a total of about $393.75 in the jug, if they were all pennies. There were nickels too so if the mixture was approximately 50-50 I'd say the total value is around $900 +/- $150, depending on the actual mixture.
