That is a problem I have. If I want it, I have trouble imagining a collector that would be able to let it go. Dealers are a different matter since they expect not to collect but to sell them and handle a hundred times as many coins as they could if they collected.
5 hours to go.... work fast approaching.... gonna end while I'm there...... Must ....... procure....... coworker smartphone!!!!
OK, I knew someone would reply like this. I know I have adopted some of your children and just want to let you know that they are all doing well. I actually infected another budding ancient collector with a couple at the same adoption fee. Numasmatics - Spread the disease!
After seeing a lot of the coins you post Hiddendragon, I'm willing to bet you didn't pull those out of the bargain bin. But yes, I know what you are saying.
Not all of them, but you might be surprised. I've learned things like that coins from British Honduras are always worth more than the book value, so when I see them I snatch them up. Most people have no idea. I almost never pay more than $5 for a coin though.
dougsmit => exactly, I totally agree => it's a bit like me giving away one of my loyal dogs .... => "Sorry Larry, but Mr Johnson said he'd give me $50 for your furry face" => sold? ..... NO!! ... it makes me sad for the coin (so sad) ... there's nuthin' worse than bad coin owners :vanish:
Not much to talk about unless something really unusual is found. I collect everything, coins(US and Foreign, new and old), stamps, rocks, gem stones, guns, chess sets, and just about anything else that can be collected. Sometimes its harder finding the correct forum to ask a questions, than having a question that needs answering. One of these days, I'm going to get me a metal detector and go prospecting. Guess this hoarding goes back to the days when I was church mouse poor. At one time, I didn't even own the clothes on my back. Not to say that I'm rich or anything, but at least now I get by without wondering where my next meal is coming from. Among the many things I'm working on is my collection of World Coins from all countries, and my collection of Morgan Dollars (the most beautiful of all coins in my opinion). Anyway, in answer to your comment, we are still here, just silent.
I have been there my friend. I 100% can relate to you, I grew up very poor, not that I am rich now, but I can collect pretty much what I want. Sometimes it takes creative financing, but lately things have been good, I hope the good times continue. Cheers!
I think a lot of us have been dirt poor. What I remember is in college, (I put myself through college), was waiting on both a paycheck and a National Guard check. I had 7 days until either, $1.30 to my name, and my coins. I ate for 7 days on $1.30 and kept every coin. Some things are just more important than money.
Maybe that's why there are so many avid coin collectors. Being dirt poor makes the value of everything seem more. Wouldn't say its greedy, just a way to forget the poor times, and have the feeling that you have something that's of value, after all, its money somewhere.
Lol, not then. Actually most of my calories were from mountain dew, as my job was at a convenience store where I could drink fountain pop for free. The rest were ramen noodles. I could have sold some morgan dollars, but I wanted the morgan more than I wanted $4 of food. I do that a lot actually. I look at a coin thinking, "Don't I want that coin more than I want a restaurant dinner?". As a result, I don't eat out much.
